He now owns Syomir Izwa , known for its custom-made evening, cocktail and party dresses, wedding outfits, make-up and shoes, with aspirations to set up shop in the Golden Triangle and make it big with his brand name. However, despite the success, Syomir attributes a large part of what he has learn to his time in Raffles, recalling that he had chosen to study there in the first place “because of the international vibe that they had – the international lecturers, students and courses.” In terms of what he has learn, he recalls that “They taught us more than the other schools in town, especially in draping classes, style and trend classes. I've learnt that fashion is not just about designing, but about the smaller details like how important good fabric, fitting and finishing is to a fabulous dress. That's why we don't see our graduates designing anything ugly or ridiculous. It's always marvelous, darling!” Syomir adds that Raffles has helped him tremendously in what is doing right now, helping him developing a sharp eye for “new looks and trends, learning to be good at adapting and translating trends, learning how to come out with a themed collections and organizing a fashion show. “I've learn to really be alert of the coming trends, what's in and what's not – after all, we don't want to be one of those designers who always comes out with something passé, right!?” he concludes with a cheeky flourish. |
